The Geek Files: CGI is All Wet

This week's edition of The Geek Files finds Pusher outraged over a technological advance that's ruining her memory of a film classic. Of course, she has no problem owning a DVD of said film... but I digress.

Blasphemy! Sacrilege! I'm looking at you, Volkswagen!

My boss just showed me a commercial that's running in the UK that manipulates the footage of Gene Kelly dancing and singing the title tune of "Singin' in the Rain." Although the CGI is almost flawless and quite remarkable, I still couldn't help covering my eyes and running from the office. Of all the iconic moments in film history to mock! And all to hock cars! I repeat - blasphemy.

I was nine years old when I first saw "Singin' in the Rain" on my previously mentioned old black and white TV (channel 9 as I recall). It was a life-altering moment as from that Saturday afternoon on I knew I wanted to work in film and television. Now, more than two decades later, I'm not sure I want to live in a world where such things as making Gene Kelly break dance are possible.

Excuse me while I go poke my eyes out. But not before watching the real "Singin' in the Rain" one last time.
