99 Word Law Review: Boston Legal, Sunday 3/20

Our own legal expert analyzes last night's Boston Legal.

The comment Chelina made about the Governor giggling at the prospect of pardoning her client is a reference to President Bush mocking Karla Faye Tucker’s efforts to get a stay of execution when he was Governor. On most other counts, BL’s death penalty episode misses the mark by a bit. Alan couldn’t just show up two days before an appeals argument- he would have to apply for permission to argue before Texas’ court, Chelina’s cell phone would have been confiscated at the prison’s front door and the Governor’s call would have to come through on the official “Governor’s phone.”
