Midseason Moves Mulled

Two networks are looking to shore up their schedules by moving successful shows. But will they kill the golden goose in the process?

... yeah, probably...

Fox is weighing a shift of television's number one series, American Idol, from Wednesday (against Lost) to Thursday (against CSI). Why? Thursday is the biggest advertising night of the week, and they can make potentially more cash with a bigger hit than Reunion on that night.

... but CSI gets even higher ratings than Lost... sounds iffy...

Meanwhile, NBC is still mulling a move of My Name Is Earl, also to Thursday, which would be very risky, putting NBC's biggest new hit in the crosshairs.

... it would potentially be a mistake for the 'cockers to move it, but what choice do they have? they're dying a thousand deaths every Thursday...

3 other geekspeak:

  • I think if Fox puts anything Idol on Thursdays, it should be those clip shows that they had on Mondays, not the highly rated results show. Every year, there's always the chance that Idol may suck and lose its audience. Pop Idol in the UK has been off the air for over a year now, so if its not on a night where people will watch, that's it.

Come January, Monday will be a strong night for Fox with Prison Break and 24 together, (assuming they keep Prison Break on Mondays), so there's no need to put those throwaway Idol shows on Mondays anymore.

My January Fox Schedule (If I were Fox)
    7PM King of the Hill
    7:30 American Dad
    8PM The Simpsons
    8:30 Family Guy
    9PM 24

    8PM Prison Break
    9PM House

    8PM American Idol Competition
    9PM Reunion

    8PM Arrested Development
    8:30 American Idol Results
    9PM Family Guy Rerun
9:30 The War at Home or replacement sitcom

    8PM The OC
9PM Ameican Idol (clip shows, best / worst ofs)

    8PM That 70s Show
    8:30 Malcom in the Middle
    9PM Bernie Mac
    9:30 Stacked or replacement sitcom

I bet Lost gets higher ratings among Idol fans than CSI.
