Winger Back in Bed With Sorkin

The West Wing co-star Bradley Whitford thas reunited with Aaron Sorkin, the show's manic, drug-addled creator, for the upcoming NBC drama pilot Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

Whitford will play a producer-director and recovering cocaine addict who has come back to run the sketch show he used to work for.

Autobiographical pipe dreams, Mr. Sorkin?

2 other geekspeak:

  • NBC has Studio 60, a drama and a Tina Fey-led sitcom this pilot season. Both shows are about behind the scenes of a SNL-like sketch comedy show.

Will both of these shows actually be picked up?

Studio 60 has Matthew Perry and D.L. Hughley
Tina Fey's show has Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan and Rachel Dratch.

NBC outbid CBS for Studio 60, knowing that they already had Tina Fey's pilot, which some are predicting will lead off NBC's Thursday nights in the fall.

If I was a high ranking NBC exec, I'd retool Tina Fey's show so it wouldn't be about a sketch comedy show, but a sitcom...

  • But while Tina's show sounds like a straight-out comedy, Sorkin's might be more of a drama about a comedy -- two different kinds of shows.

I didn't think it would make sense to have "ER" and "Scrubs" on the same network at the same time, but that's worked out ok.
