Roth to Van Halen: Make Me Your Rock Star

David Lee Roth, lead singer of Van Halen (1978-1985) and now a mediocre syndicated morning man, has some advice for his old bandmates.

He says the band shouldn't use CBS' reality show, Rock Star, to find a new lead singer.

Instead, he predictably wants to reunite with the original members for a reunion tour. Never mind that he can barely sing anymore, or that Eddie Van Halen can barely stay sober enough to hammer out a coherent solo.

A spokesman for the band denies the rumor.

CBS hasn't confirmed the next band to be featured on Rock Star, but auditions start next month. Van Halen has long been a rumored possibility.

Waah, Waah, Waah, Simon's Too Mean

American Idol's Simon Cowell needs to learn the number one rule of television: that the microphones are always on, and the cameras are always rolling.

Responding to accusations that his cruelty this year has crossed some sort of line, Cowell claims producers kept shooting his comments after contestants left the audition room. He says those comments were never meant to get on TV.

This season, officials from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance whined about derogatory comments from Cowell and fellow judge Randy Jackson.
